  1. MBA

For small companies, it’s Quickbooks. Peachtree is also common for small companies. As you get a little larger, Great Plains (owned by Microsoft) starts being common.

In my experience there are two accounting programs used widely by small to mid-sized businesses.
The first is QuickBooks http://quickbooks.intuit.com and
    the second is
    BS/1 Professional http://www.dbsonline.com/purchase.
I have my own bookkeeping business and use QuickBooks. I find the program very good for small businesses and easy enough to learn. Intuit has training CD’s that can be purchased to help learn the program.
I would recommend BS/1 Professional for the mid size business. This company has various programs that can be better customized for the larger business.

Sage is the most advocated accounting programme but it is hard to use and expensive annual costs. It is pushed hard by accountants who get a fee for introducing it. By far the most effective and straightforward product is Quickbooks but do not have the version pushed by Barclays otherwise you get tied in to them.
