Is There A Free Accounting Software As Good Or Better Than Quickbooks?

Is there a good accounting software that matches QuickBooks that is free? I run a small business and the QuickBooks ads and fees are getting to me. Any free software that matches or is better than QuickBooks out there?

I admit I’m a little biased since I’m a Certified Quickbooks Proadvisor. That being said, if you do payroll using Quickbooks, there is a separate fee so that you can stay up to date with the latest payroll tax changes. Otherwise, there is just the purchase price if purchasing Quickbooks Pro or higher.
I don’t know of anything that’s better than Quickbooks. You can use Quickbooks Simple Start for free, but it doesn’t have the full functionality like Quickbooks Pro, Premier or Enterprise. Depends what you are looking for!
Don’t know what you meant by “ads and fees”.
    Hope this helps!

You can try to search for some open source software. The software will be free but the usage (addons will still cost money).
However, I’m confused why you are having fees with quickbooks.
I opened 2 small businesses in 2004 and have used QBs since then.
I had the initial cost of the 2005pro software ($200?) and then had to upgrade in last year to 2008pro ($275?). That’s all I have ever spent. I consider $500 over the span of 5 years, a fair cost.
Maybe you are buying addons & upgrades you don’t need.
