Internship will help you a lot, but I think it is difficult to get one at this moment, the economy is bad. Try your luck at other jobs instead, you are not going to wait a few years to get a job, don't you? Another way is to run a small business yourself, so you gain entrepreneurial skills and gain accounting experience too, right? I just quit my firm after I worked there for 12 years - accounting firms are always hiring. One thing I can tell you is this - tax season is right around the corner. Go to those places like Jackson Hewitt or H&R Block and apply. Just get your foot in the door at a place like that to get some type of experience. Anything at this point will do some good. Potential employers like to see the Tax Prep experience on a resume - even if it is for a short period of time. Plus the big firms hire this time of year too - you don't have to go to the Jackson Hewitt or H&R Blocks - just keep it up - the busy time of year is a month and a half away - you'll find something.
