How Long Does It Take To Learn Accounting?

I know a BA is four years.
I’m asking, generally, how long it took you in your field of accounting to get a very good feel for what you were doing and not be overwhelmed by your work.

I am doing accounting at the moment (CAT – Chattered Accounting Technician) which will lead me to ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). The course I’m doing now, it usually takes 18 months; it can be longer, depending how well you work on it. The course is actually quite intense, each term you only get 3 months to complete 3 subjects, no coursework though. But you have to understand swiftly or otherwise you won’t be able to catch up.
There are three parts in ACCA, once you have completed CAT, you won’t need to do ACCA part 1, you can straight go onto part 2. Once you have passed part 2, you will gain a degree from Oxford Brookes University. You then can either stop at part 2 or to continue part 3, which is like extremely hard!
