    Congrats on your retirement!
The first step would be to determine whether you want to target small business owners, self-employed individuals, or individual taxpayers. Once you have made that decision, I would pick 2-3 niche markets within the broad category. For example, if you want to market to individual taxpayers, you might want to select “Retirees,” “Teachers,” and “First-Time Homebuyers” as your three niche markets.
Once you have these 2-3 niches identified, tailor your website and marketing materials to address their specific needs. Maybe play up the First-Time Homebuyer Credit and a HUD-1 review for First-Time Homebuyers, maybe play up the Educator Credit and other employee business expenses (union dues, supplies, continuing education, etc) for teachers.
My experience has been that “traditional” internet marketing has not attracted the most desirable types of clients. I would recommend that you use the internet in more creative ways such as answering questions here on the Yahoo! boards, setting up a blog with good content, and social networking.
Best of luck with the new accounting firm!
