I am not familiar with quickbooks and am trying to learn but I have the contractors version. I have a retail store, can i use this version or would I be better off getting a different version?

I want to start selling exotic knives, daggers, swords, and collectors blades. I’d like to start an online store which will supply a shopping cart, PayPal check out, etc. with a Yahoo’s small business account. I’m completely new at this.

I am working in Tally 5.4. As at the end of March 2009, the new accounting period from April 2009 begins. So, I want to know how to open new account for the new financial period in Tally 5.4 having all the ledgers and opening balances.

I work for a manufacturing company. We built one of our own products for our own use at the company. We use peachtree accounting software. We want to show that the product was built and taken out of stock and the cost involved in building that product but we do not want to Invoice and pay ourselves for it. We also want to show that it is now an asset. How would we go about doing this in Peachtree? Or any other accounting information would be great.

I know a BA is four years.
I’m asking, generally, how long it took you in your field of accounting to get a very good feel for what you were doing and not be overwhelmed by your work.

I have recently incorporated my small business and I keep reading to keep accurate details of my transactions. Initially I began a semi-journal. I spoke with two potential accountants, one whom stated that I need to get started with my general ledger and a couple ther things that went over my head, and the other accountant did not make mention of this. He focused more on my ’s-selection.’
What should I know here. What should I be keeping track of until I hire an accountant, and will the accountant do this or do I? What other housekeeping notes should I be aware of?

I’m doing some research because I plan on opening my own business next year. I want to cater to small businesses, but I’m not sure exactly what they need or want, other than basic bookkeeping services.
The more services you include the better!
Thanks so much and looking forward to asking/answering more questions!

Last summer I started a small business selling merchandise via online. Before all the expenses, I make around $10,000 a month. Maybe about 60% is my net profit.
I have not applied for small business account yet.
Not sure if I should do or not. And what would be the best way
to pay taxes. I am a single person with no kids…
I really appreciate your helpful comments.

I can not figure out how to add a column for check number in any QuickBooks reports. Check number is not in the column list. If there is no way to show the check number on reports then why does QuickBooks have a field for check number on their Sales Receipt form?

Here are some other details that might be helpful. This is my second interview with this firm. I recently recieved my associates degree in accounting and this is my first job. I have a fair amount of education, but not very much job experience. This company does not have a web site that I know of (I have searched). I do know that they do income taxes, payroll, and financial statements among other things. Their clients range from small to large businesses. Thanks for your suggestions.
